GYC Sailathon 2008 

Greenwich Yacht Club's 100 years

Starts 21st June 2008 at the GYC with the Director of the National Maritime Museum as one of the Guests seeing this uniquely historic Club celebrate it's 100 years on the Thames River at Greenwich with one of the events being Sailathon's

Our 2nd Trip to Scotland is supported by Marine Volunteer Service ,London and Rochester Units(Reg Charity)

News Up Date: St Juarna,Stray Cat and Goodwill finally arrived home after four weeks being storm bound in Scarborough for a week and at other ports

they also had to duck into Sunderland on the return trip due to heavy weather.

Fund raising is going so well that we hope to reach our target.

"GALE  WARNING" a new book  by Paul Woodhead is a collection of tales from the East Coast with Artists Peter Kent and Louis Roskill providing the art work and will be available very soon.

Port of London are presenting Leith Port with a Wedgewood Plate accompanied with a GYC Sailathon framed  certificate. 

The Leader of the City of Edinburgh Bailie Jenny Dawe to receive a Royal Borough of Greenwich Plaque presented hopefully on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Boadicea the oldest gaff cutter in the world will be 200yrs on 19th June the BBC will be filming

it as it sails up the Thames  to GYC.

RYNC are organising East Coast Festival and we are invited to join in. We shall also encounter 

               The National ROUND BRITAIN Power Boat Race in the Firth of Forth

Greta historic Thames Sailing Barge will be taking a crew of 12 on the first leg only to  Lowestoft then a East Coast Cruise.

Boats planning to sail to Scotland: Nushaba, , Flying Free, St Jaurna, Stray Cat, and a welcome late comer Goodwill

June 21st:            Depart GYC Greenwich 1500hrs

June 22nd:          Queenborough

June 23rd:           Harwich/ Lowestoft

June 25th:           Blyth Royal Northumberland YC

June 26th:           Eyemouth

June 27/28th:      Leith Port

June 29th:           Port Edgar Edinburgh.

Leith Port have granted a visit on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Port Edgar Yacht Club will lay on a BBQ on the 29th June.

Return Route:

June 29/30th:      Eyemouth

June 31st:             Whitby

2nd July:               Lowestoft

4th July:                Thames

We hope to have a few well-known celebrities around supporting  SAILATHON which has done so much good work raising money for charity. WE SHALL be having a party !!!
